St. David’s Guild
A bring and buy stall was held at the monthly meeting of St. David's Ladies’ Guild on Wednesday afternoon, Ales.lames H. E. Townshend, W. H. Moffatt and R. E. Ellis being in charge. Mrs. A. Stewart presided over a good attendance and welcomed the members and visitors from the Terrace End branch of the League of Mothers. A special welcome was extended to Mrs. Smith, of Wellington, and to Mrs. E. Gilchrist, the honorary life vice-president, who had been away for a time. The president reminded members of the collection for parcels for men of the church on active service. She also reported that the sewing circle had sent iu -100 garments for refugees and a further 100 were nearly ready. The work had been excellently carried out and some of the garments were on view. An appeal was made for further material. An invitation was received for two representatives to attend the birthday party of the Townswomen’s Guild. Mesdames Smith and Acheson were appointed. Mrs. K. Jones contributed songs, playing her own accompaniment; Mrs. W. Mochan gave the monthly reading, and Janet Holmes recited. A competition was conducted by Mrs. Ross and won by Mrs. Higgie. ,The hostesses were Mesdames Ross, F. Lucas, W. Edwards. A vote of sympathy was accorded Mrs. W. E. Andersen, in the deaths of her two brothers. | A play was presented by the Milson Institute, the cast comprising Mesdames Brookfield, D. Rabone and G. L. Graham. The producer was Mrs. x\ Murphy.
