RECEPTION COMMITTEE PLANS The Mayor (Mr. A. E. Mansford) presided at a meeting of representatives of Palmerston North societies and churches, held on Wednesday afternoon, for the purpose of making arrangements for the reception and allocation of British children to individual homes in Palmerston North and district. The committee of the All Saints' Children’s Home stating that they would be willing to accommodate any number up to fifty children for the few days prior to their being placed in private homes. In reply to a question, Mr. Mansford stated that the applications in Palmerston North numbered 32, for a total of 35 children, while the number of applications for tho district zone numbered 12'.) for 154 children.
It was decided that all those present at the meeting constitute a reception I committee. The following are the mem'bers, with the church or society they represent shown in parentheses: The Mayor, Mr. B. J. Jacobs (Returned Soldiers’ Association), Mr. C. H. Handley (All Saints’ Children’s Home), Mr. J. R. O’Sullivan (District Welfare Officer), Mr. 11. L. Cunningham (Rotary Club), Mrs. S. J. Parkes (Hospital Society), Rev. F. S. Ramson (St. Peter’s Church), Rev. R. Warnock (St. David’s), Rev. Father Jansen (St. Patrick’s), Misses Garcia and Spensley. A sub-committee was formed for the actual allocation of the children to in dividual homes, consisting of the Mayor, Mr. O’Sullivan, Misses Spensley and Garcia, and representatives of both tho Willard and All Saints’ Children’s Homes.
