MEETING OF COMMITTEE At a meeting of the Central School Committee on Wednesday evening, Mr. W. G. Black presided. Mr. Black was nominated as the committee J s representative on the provisional committee of the Intermediate School. The headj master (Mr. E. Bary) in his report stated that the school closed the last term with a roll of 725. The average attendance for the term was 671, showing that there was a daily average of 54 absentees. The roll number was now 746. At the beginning of this term 28 children were admitted and seven withdrawn. Miss E. Carso,n was acting |as relieving assistant in place of Miss Mclntosh, who had taken up a position at Tokomaru. Messrs. K. M. White and A. F. Budd had received appointments at the Intermediate School and would resign from the Central School as from January 31. Mr. K. T. Familton had received notice to report to tho military authorities towards the end of September. The school’s medical officer, in conjunction with the medical officer of health, was making preparations for treatment to be given to children as a

protection against diphtheria. Consent forms had been issued to parents concerned and only a very small percentage of parents had refused to the carrying out of the treatment.
