Egg Production Retarded
LACK OF INFORMATION Criticism of the delay in providing information concerning the drive for increased egg production to assist Britain was expressed at a meeting of the Manawatu District Primary Production Council yesterday. Regarding the financing of egg pro duetion, the Director of Primary Production (Mr. R. B. Tennent) wroto stating that applications would be deferred in the meantime pending the announcement of the price to bo paid to the producer for eggs for export. It had also been decided that assistance could not be extended to tho establishmenc of new units in the poultry industry, but that, after the price'for export had been announced, activities would be confined to granting assistance to existing egg producers to enable them to increase their output. Mr. K. M. Little stated that farmers , were still in the dark concerning what was required of them in regard to egg production. People were at first encouraged to take an interest in increasing the egg output, but now they were apparentlc being discouraged. Mr. J. Linklater, who presided, considered it was most unfair to expect members of the council to go about the country advocating the production of eggs, when there was no information available concerning the price and other details. Egg production had been placed at the head of tho list m the production drive, and the campaign had been impeded by lack of information.
It was decided to ask the Agricultural Department to supply information as early as possible.
