WEST AUSTRALIAN FLOODS
WASHOUTS ON RAILWAYS TELEGRAPH SERVICE INTERRUPTED (United Press Association—By Eleotrio Telegr&ph-^Copyrlght) PERTH, Ist January. Rains caused serious washaways on the trans-continental railway. An engine with tender, a mail van, and two second class coaches on the west-bpund express were derailed sixty-three miles eastward of Rawinna. No one was injured but rolling stock was considerably damaged. News regarding floods and the condition of the country is unobtainable owing to a breakdown of the railway telegraph service. A “willy willy ’ or cyclonic storm struck Marble Bar on Saturday night, damaging the police station, the post office, courthouse and residency. The wind reached a velocity of 80 miles an hour, and continued on Monday in the Nullagine district, with the rainfall reaching nearly six inches in some places. The telegraphs to Wvndham are dislocated, messages having to go via Adelaide and Darwin with radio filling the gap between the latter and Wyndham.
