BONDI SENSATION
TWO CONSTABLES KILLED DESPERADO IN DYING CONDITION (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, 3rd January. A sensational happening occurred this morning at Bondi Junction. A man named Kennedy, known as “Wavorley Bill.” entered a shop and purchased goods for which lie refused to pay. The shop attendant called Constable. Allen, upon whose entry Kennedy drew a revolver and shot him dead. He then hurried out and made for iih home. A second constable, named Andrews, jumped from a passing tram and gave chase. On reaching Kennedy’s home Kennedy attacked him with a knife, inflicting stabs which proved fatal. Shortly afterwards a third constable, named Johnston. went to Kennedy’s place, and in an altercation shot Kennedy, who is. now in hospital in a dying condition. The police seized a great quantity of ammunition in Kennedy’s rooms.
ANOTHER DEATH SYDNEY, 4th January. Kennedy died in hospital. IMPUTATION OF COWARDICE PREYED ON MIND SYDNEY. 3rd January. It is now stated that Kennedy was brooding for years over his rejection during the war when he tried to enlist. He received many anonymous letters containing white feathers, and the imputation of cowardice preyed on him. He went to America some years ago, but-, returned and brooded over his imagined wrongs until his mind was unhinged. SHOCK TO PARENTS SYDNEY, 3rd January. Tile parents of Constable Andrews were shocked at the news of the fatal shooting. The last message from Andrews was a cable conveying season’s greetings.
