IN THE ANTARCTIC

MESSAGE FROM MAWSON

BRITISH FLAG HOISTED (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 9th January. 9.55 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. A message from Sir Douglas Mawsoii states: “We have just embarked after two days ashore on King George V. Land, where the British flag was. officially hoisted. The hut where I raised the flag twenty years ago is still standing, although greatly weather-worn. Observations compared with those in 1912 indicate that the magnetic pole is 100 miles

closer than formerly, and is probably now distant only about 200 miles.
