Over *ix million airgraph messages nave been handled since the services between fhe Dominion and Canada, the United Kingdom and the Middle East were inaugurated in the early months of r Air « ra Ph messages forwarded Zealand total 3.080.000 and •5.J4U.000 inward messages have been received. Outward Christmas airgraphs handled this season totalled 179,000 compared with 110,000 for the preeeding Christmas; inward Christmas airgraphs numbered 262.000. compared with 84.000. Average transmission times for outward messages were 12 days to the United Kingdom, nine to tlfc Middle East. 17 to South Africa, eight to India and Ceylon, and 12 to Canada. For nward messages the average transmission times were 14 days from fhe United Kingdom, 13 from fhe Middle East. 18 from South Africa. 10 from India and Ceylon and 13 from Canada.

The transmission time is the actual number of days the mail takes in transmission oetween the two terminal airgraph stations. At the outward station time is taken in assembling the messages at the processing point and in processing the messages themselves. At the destination end a day or two may elapse between the time of receipt of the inward airgraph film and the posting of the enlargments. At present the air-letter card service and the airgraph service offer the quickest means of overseas postal communication. and writers are encouraged to make increasing use of these two services.
