DOMINION SEA SCOUTS CAMP AT NGAKUTA BAY. QUEEN CHARLOTTE SOUND IRON DUKE CREW PRAISED FOR OARSMANSHIP After a lapse of four years the annual championship regatta for all New Zealand Sea Scouts was revived this year and took place on 3rd January at the Sea Scout Jamboree, which is being held at Ngakuta Bay, near Picton. About 190 Sea Scouts are present at the camp. Including representative* from 19 different Sea Scout groups from as fHr away as Auckland and the Bluff. The results of the final races at the Regatta were as follows : Nelson Cup 'open lo all Sea Scouts of any age): i mile: Anderson’s Bay (Dunedin) beat Scotts Own (Oamaru) by two lengths. Time, 8.38. Washbourn Cup (for senior Sea Scouts under 18» : Scotts Own beat Jellicoe llnvercargjll) by 14 lengths. Time, 8.26. Aorangl Cup (for Sea Scouts under 10) : Jellicoe (Invercargill) beat Castlecliff (Wanganui) by two lengths. Time, 8.40. The Iron Duke crew from Nelson were represented In the Aorangi Cup event, and won their heats, but in the semi-finals were defeated by Bluff. Wellington Cup (for best oarsmanship and style of rowing, under 16): Iron Duke (Nelson), 90 points, 1; Jellicoe (Invercargill), 85 points), 2. Leslie Shore Cup (best style of rowing, under 18) : Anderson's Bay (Dunedin), 85 points, 1; Scotts Own (Oamaru), 83 points, 2. The judge of the events for oarsmanship and style of rowing made special comment on the Iron Duke crew from Nelson, who he considered outstanding. and reflecting great credit, on the boys and their trainer The members of the Iron Duke crew from Nelson were: E. Cameron (stroke), J. Sigley, L. Senior, E. Norriss. C. Stewart (cox). Emergencies, S. Hunter, T. Houlkcr. They will return to Nelson on Saturday. NEW STANDARD BOAT All the rowing events were rowed In the new standard boat, which has been adopted for Sea Scouts throughout New Zealand. These boats are 17 feet in length, row four oars, and sail well, being fitted with mast and centreboard. The Iron Dukes of Nelson have a boat on order and will shortly be running a campaign to raise the fundi necessary to pay for it. The camp has been under the control of Mr A. J. Black, of Dunedin, who is New Zealand Commissioner for Sea Scouts, and he was good enough to take the representatives from Nels°n down to the Sounds in his wellknown vessel Sea Rover. , The Governor-General was to visit the camp yesterday, but flying conditions were unfavourable for the visit. It is still hoped that he will be present before the camp breaks up on Saturday. The Cornwall Shield aggregate points lor rowing, swimming, and rescue with rowing events completed, the leading troops are: Scotts Own and Jellicoe 25 points, and Anderson’s Bay 20 points
