SHARK SNAPS AT SKI

Sydney, Jan. 1. A large shark snapped at a surf ski on which a boy was riding at North Narrabeen. Three boys—Brian Maloney, aged 15, Keith Staden, 16, and James Doherty, 14, all of Narrabeen—were on surf skis 75 yards from the beach when they saw the shark lashing the water. It made a vicious snap at one of the skis, and the boys paddled hard for the beach. About halfway Brian Maloney was washed off his ski, but scrambled back and reached shore safely with his companions. Half an hour later the shark was seen near the surfing area. The length was estimated at 10ft. Sharks were also reported at other surf beaches near Sydney and surfing was suspended for short periods.
