Since my last report (October 31st) the fishing has been -very good, and the majority of angleis have had rare sport. The kawhai aie now about at the mouth of the n\er. They atlbrd good sport to fishermen, as moie skill is required to t.ike the kaw hai than the trout, and on th.it account the fishing ground at the mouth is much frequented by anglers who geneially make a big haul of both tiout and kawhai. Two large groper were caught during November, one by Mr A. Hayc (about b'Olbs weight), and one by Mr Jackson (OOlbs). Parties of Maoiis are making big hauls of whitebait, nu.llet, eels, etc. The following are a few of the baskets of trout ■ October 30th — Messis Nicholls and Smith (Hook), 40 fish, 2601bs : Mr Geo. M'Lean, 13 fish, 781bs ; Mr D. Roy,, (5 fish, Sb'lbs : Mr D. T. Kelly, 1 fish, bibs ; Mr J. Lowe, 11 fish, i bOlbs. November 2nd — Mr "W, Goidon, 14 fish, 981bs ; Messis Capstick and Bmney, 7 fish, 401bs ; Mr R. M'Kay, 4 hsh, 201bs. November 4th— Mr P. J. Murphy, 3 fish, lolbs. November 8th — Mr W. Gordon, 2 fish, lSlb.s ; Mr T. Smith (Hook), 7 fish, 30lbs. November 9th — Mr 13. Batchelor, 5 fish, 401bs ; Mr W. Goidon, b fish, 4211)5. November 10th — Mr J. Luck, 2 fish, lOlbs ; Mr A. Walker, 4 fish, 24lbs. November 21st— Mr J. Goldsmith (Dunedin), 3 fish, 211bs. November 24th —Mr R. M 'Queen (Timaru), 5 fish, 371bs ; Mr R. M'Kay, G fi-.li, 4Slbs. November 30th— Mr A. Martin (( )taio), 1 fish, 131bs ; Mr A. 11. Stock, 1 hsh, JMlbs. December 2nd — Mr Geo. M'Lean," 2 fish, 20\lbs ; Mr C. Clarke, 1 fish, 121bs. December 3rd — Mr E. Pinder (Paj)akaio), 4 fish, 401bs. December sth— Mi J. Robertson, 2 fish, 121b&. December Ist Mr Thomas Jones (Tinia.ru), 7 fish (laigest 161bs, a splendid hsh) b'Hlbs ; Mr R. Ferguson (Timaru), 4 fish, 211bs ; Colonel Bailey (Timaru) and Mr F. Aicher, senior (Cluistchuich) have also visited the Waitaki, but were unfortunate.
