BOBBERY BY NATIVES ON THE EAST COAST.
Me. W. E. Harcoubt, who has just, returned overland from the East Coast, via Ohinemuri informs us that on Saturday last, whilst passing through Parakawai, a Maori village botween Whangamataand Mataora, on the East Coast, he was robbed of his tent, tools, and swag by a party of natives belonging to that district. It appears that Mr. ilarcourt, iu passing through the district on his return to the Thames felt too unwell to continue his journey, but a pakclia Maori who was stating at the village informed the natives that, 'he did not think Ilarcourt was sick, and only wauled to go into the ranges in search of gold, wh reupon the natives stripped him of the articles enumerated, and left him to find his wav back jninus his properly.—Advertiser, ' j
VOLI'NTEEK INTELLIGENCE. Tiir usual weekly parade of the members of the Auckland Rifle Volunteers was held last evening at the Drill-shed. There was u capital muster of both officers and nun, and a Tery creditable drill was gone througn. After tho pnrade a meeting of Ao. *L companytoou place, Captain Tole in the chair The rules were reftd and adopted, and ordcivu to be forwarded to the Governor for approval and signature. It was resolved that in addition to its numerical name, " No. -1 Companv," the company should in future bear the title of " The City Guards." Corporals Little and Dufuur were elected sergeants; private H.O. Brown whs elected corporal. Some other business in reference to internal management of the coniany was transacted, after which the meeting separated.
