WORKING MEN'S CLUB.
TO TIIE EDITOR. Sir, —I can assure " A Member of the Working Men's Club" that I could see nothing in my letter to amuse him, and will endeavour, in answering him, to be as brief ae possible. His remarks as to my wanting something I did not get, I treat with the contempt they deserve, as my letter was written wholly on account of his Club departing from what its name implies. His Utopian ideas of equality usually prevail about election time. We are not all so ignorant but that we are able to draw the line betwixt gentlemen, professionals, master, and working men. "Boosing den"wasaword I did not apply to his club. If it snits, he is welcome to it. I will leave others to argue what »re necessaries »nd what are luxuries. What information I possess come 3 from the Press and conventions with members. Billiard-table costing £140, and the cards, &c, advertised for, are not usually working men's necessarits, neither is Three Star brandy, Amontilado sherry, and expensive English ales. These I term luxuries, not necessaries. But, sir, I as one of the promoters, and I know I was not the exception, had visions of lectures, social and political; penny readings, where men could take their wives and grown children, and other social amusements ; also a school of arts and designs, lessons in architecture and shipbuilding. These, if properly carried out, would be real recreations for working men, and the moans of imparting knowledge to each other we conld not otherwise possess. These are the real causes of my sorrow. Let the members of the Working Men's Club carry these out, and they will have the cordial support of One of tiie Promoters.
