Pilot Service.—Mr. J. F. French and Mr, T. Jones, apprentices, were appointed on trial for three months.

Works Committee.--Leaseholdera applied for a small jetty or landing at the foot of Hobson-street. The committee recommended that landing-steps be -provided at the eastern side of Hobson-street, not to exceed five feet in width, and that tenders be called for the work. Agreed to.—Permission was granted to Mr. Harrison to occupy a site for a boatshed at £6 per annum. A similar permission was given to Mr. Harcourt to occupy a site at Stokes' Point.—lt waß resolved that the dock channel be dredged, and then the dr«dge and punts be overhauled.—The sit« for public baths, opposite Hardinge-street, was aDproved, and it was agreed to give Mr, Hilditch, of the Saltwater Baths, the necessary notice.-—The enginoer was instructed to report as to the cost of a landing, place 60 feet long, at the JSorth Shore. New Tee.—The committee recommended that the existing tee used by the steamship companies vessels be removed, and a new tco constructed to the northward in deeper water, and parallel with the tide, so that vessels might more easily come alongside. The work .is to coat £3000. Adapted. Engineer's .Report.—The following is the eugineer's report" Auckland Harbour Board, Engineer's Office, September 6, ISBO. Sir, —I have the honour to submit the following report, and in doing so would statu that tho whole of the raised platform ou the outer tee of tho Queen-street Wharf with the exception of about eighty feet lias been removed, and tlie framing of the main wharf has been extended over the site of the platform ; and the remaining eight feet I expect to have completed in three weeks from date. The gas-lamps on the main portion of the Queen-street Wharf, and on the outer end of tho eastern tee, have been altered as approved by the Board and are working satisfactorily. * The inner, or southern half of Quay-street, between Queen and .Little Queen-street, has been coated with scoria road metal, and to ensure a good roadway it will be necessary to take in and maintain this piece of street until the new metal is worn to an even surface. In compliance with instructions, I have to report being of opinion that the hulk Gantero causes very serious silting from the continually layiug at the same berth alongside the Railway Wharf. It would be impossible to compute the proportion of the silting up which has taken place at this wharf caused by the hulk, but I would state that underneath the wharf and inside of the hulk the depth of water has been reduced from twelve feet to' four. I am also of opinion that the hulk should be moved further up the wharf southwards, and moored east and west with the set of the tides and winds. I would request authority to incur an expenditure of £5 in repairing the road leading to the Railway Wharf. I should also scate that the piles and framing of the platform used by the .North Shore steamers are very much broken and decayed, and that it will be necessary to rsuew this work as Boon as piles of the required lengths are to hand.—l have, &c., D. E. McDonald, Engineer."
