The schooner Torea will probably be entered at i.he Lvtre'.ton regatta. The Union Co.'s s.s. Tararua, arrived from Sydney, via Russell, at 2.30 this morning. We are Indented to the purser for the following report:—" Left Sydney at 8 p.m. on the 'Jth of December, and experienced fresh southwesterly wir.ris. with moderate sea, right across. Passed the Three Kings at " a.m. on the 14th. Pasted th? Syren, brig, from Auckland, off the Morth Cape, at 1 p.m.. and R.M.S. Australia at 2 p.m.. and reached Russell at 9 p.m. on the 14th ; left a:ain at 1 p.m. The Union S.S. Co.'s s.s. Waitaki arrived from Taurine at 6.30 o'clock yesterday evening with about fifteen passengers, having made the run unuer twelve hours. The round trip from Auckland to Tf.uranga and back, including stoppage the latter port, occupied only twenty-six hour?. The Waitaki left again for "Whangarei and Russell soon after 7 o'clock. The cutter "Water Lily came in contact with the rigging of the cutter Australian, which was lying at anchor in the harbour, carrying away the letter's topmast. No other injury was sustained. Messrs. "Wailer and Co. want to charter a vessel to cr.rry 120,000 feet baulk timber from Kaipara to Dunedin. A notification relative to the receipt of cargo by the Kaipara S.S. Co.'s boats during the Christmas holidays appears in our advertising columns. The missionary barque Southern Cross will probably be laid up till March next. In the meantime, she will undergo an overhaul, and be supplied with fresh encine md boiler. These alteration? are expected to accelerate her speed, which is already creditable considering she came from Norfolk Island in three days last trip. The brig Transport arrived yesterday evening from Newcastle. The master reports :—Left Jfewcaatle on 27th Xovember at 6 p.m. with light easterly winds, which lasted to 3rd of December, then veered to the northward, and continued so till the sth, when it shifted to the 5.1?., wit), rain. The weather cleared up on Gth, the wind veering to E.N.E. Fine weather until the Oth. when the wind changed to north, with thick rain. The 10th wa3 calm, with heavy rain.
