KILLED ON THE RAILWAY.
Christchurch, May 8. Near the Hinds station, Samuel Chessou, a fireman on the Southern express, while firing up, was standing with one foot on the engine and the other on the tender. Suddenly the couplings parted, and Chesson fell, and the whole train passed over him, mangling him dreadfully. His neck was broken, and his right hand and left foot were out off. He was single, twenty years of age, and lived at Timaru.
