RESIGNATION ACCEPTED. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE. A “CLIMB DOWN.” (Received March 9, 1.8 a.m.) PARIS, March 8. Owing to tho fanatical opposition of mountaineers in Upper Cevennes, the French Government decided not to apply the inventory clause of the Act for the Separation of Church and State. It was also reported that tho Government intended elsewhere to officially recognise tho inventories taken yearly by Mayors of communes and parish priests.

In the Chamber of Deputies a resolution was proposed approving tho action of the Government.

Tho resolution was rejected, whereupon tho Premier. M. Rouvier. tendered his resignation, which has been accepted by President Falliorcs.

M. Rouvier has been President of France since June. ISO2. On the resignation of M. Delcasse last year M. Horn vier also became Minister of Foreign Affairs.
