Trinity College Examination in Music.
On Saturday Mr Charles Edwards, L.T.C.L., one of the Professors of Music at the Trinity College, London, visited Oam*ru for the purpose of examining candidates in connection with the examinations of that institution in practical music. He also met the Oamaru teachers and those taking an interest in music in the afternoon, when he gave advice and hints to teachers as to the preparation of candidates for the local examinations, and also much valuable information about the higher examinations, which are professional, and which have been specially instituted to encourage the training of teachers. Mr Edwards also made special mention of Miss Eva W. Hood, senior division, who has made the record of the colonies in passing with the maximum marks. He could not say too much of her abilities, and recommended her to prepare for the higher examinations. In conversation with our representative he 6aid that he had no hesitation in saying that she possessed marks of distinction he had never previously met with in one so young. This from a man who has examined so many candidates was very high praise, and shows what can be attained by proper training, ability, and determined practice. Mr Edwards also said that Miss Hood's hands were specially adapted for the piano, the muscles having been properly developed by practice when young. The official report will be available here in five months time, but Mr Edwards handed the interim report to Miss Diehl, local secretary. This shows that out of the nine candidates presented eight have passed, and two of these have obtained honor marks. The results are as follows :
SENIOB DIVISION. Candidate, Marks. Teacher. Eva W, Hood Honors Mr A. J. Barth intermediate division. Susie Thompson Pass Miss Giffiord Flo. Reid Pass Mies Diehl Hilda Martin Pa9s Mrs Hood Mary Hamilton Pass Mr V. Booth Isabel Elder Pass Miss Diehl JUNIOR DIVISION. Leoni Headland Pass Mrs Hood Milly Potter Honors Dominican Suns
Early man used to be able to wag his ears as an indication of pleasure, or to brush away flies from under his back hair, bub as the muscles were not brought into continual use they became rudimentary.
