Auckland Farmers in Conference.

(BY TELEGRAPH.) Auckland, November 14. At the annual Farmers' Conference the President mide a suggestion in the direction of establishing a scholarship in connection with the :.incoln Agricultural College for the benefit of the sons of farmers in the Auckland district. The question has already beers brought before the executive of the Auckland Agricultural Association. Mr Kisher (Pukerimu) said <here was some proposal to esiab : ish an experimental farm at Auckland, and if the Government could be persuaded to take in farming pupils this would answer better than sending young fellows to Canterbury, where the conditions of farming and climate were different to what they were* ia Auckland. The chairman moved—"That thi3 Association recommends the Show and Finance Committee to vote the sum of L2O per year for two years towards founding a scholarship for Auckland boys at the Lincoln Agricultural College, Christchurch." After some discussion the motion was lost by a considerable majority. The secretary read a letter from Mr Clifton, chief inspector of stock, in answer to a letter from the -ogricnltr.il Association in reference to charges made respecting diseased cattle being slaughtered in riUtkl nd. He said the proportion of diseased cattle and sheep s'aughtered was very small indeed, being only two-fifths or threefifch3 per thousand out of 4000 cattle slaughtered at the city abattoirs. During a certain period only 16 were condemned as diseased. It was decided to send a letter to the Minister for Agriculture with reference to the charges in this connection made by Mr Jephson, stock inspector at the Thames. It was dscided to wiit« to Mr Jephson asking for an explanation of hi 3 statements, and it was also resolved to seek legal advice regarding the subject matter of his charges in the event of a satisfactory explanation not being forthcoming.
