Sir Edward Grey, Parliamentary Secretary for the Foreign Office In the late Liberal Administration, speaking at Ashington, said the withdrawal of the French from Fashoda had only settled one acute point of the Egyptian question. Mr Asqiiith, in the course of an address at Pediham, said the horizon everywhere was dark and menacing. America's advent as a colonising imperial Power was a good omen for the future, as she was certain to become a great Power in the Far JEast, where her interests were identical with Great Britain's.
Mr Ritchie, speaking at Swinton, said Great Britain' was not yet out of the wood. It is reported that five battleships belonging to the British naval reserve will proceed to Gibraltar. The Channel fleet is returning from a cruise in the Mediterranean. The. second reserve will be despatched to cruise round the British coast. Received November 15, at 0.22 a.m. Cairo, November 14. Major Marchand and Captain Baratier have started from here on their return to Fashoda, and expect to reach Jubutil in June. London, November 14. It is reported that a strong French force are marching upon El Obeid, the capital of Kardofan.
