Canterbury Grain and Produce Markets.

(Lyttelton Times).

Business In the grain and produce mar- | kets does not yet appear to have come to j life again after the holidays, and very | little is doing. There is little or no demand for wheat either for home consumption or for the North Island, and the market shows an inclination to weaken. One or two small lines of Tuscan and Hunter's have been taken at 3s 7d for the former and 3s 4d for the latter, delivered at town mills. No transactions are reported in Canterbury grown oats,; but some 3000 sacks of Southlands have been taken by> some of the larger stables during the past few days, the prices obtained not being : disclosed.- A little oatsheaf chaff has been shipped to the West Coast? and Wellington, but the rapid growth of grass in consequence of the late rains has caused the market to weaken. Although the season for potatoes is virtually over, a few small lots are still offering, but with the exception of a few tons sent to Wellington and Dunedini there is no export trade. New cheese: is now coming- in freely, and ; meets with a ready sale. A cable message was received from London yesterday to the effect that cowgrass and red and white olover have advanced in price by LlO per ton there.
