The following honors have been conferred in connection with the Soudan campaign : Lord Kitchener and Major-General F. (irenfell—Knights Grand Cross of the Order of Bath ; Lieut.-Colonel Wingate, director of the military intelligence in the Egyptian army, and 1 Slatin Pasha—Knights Commander of St. Michael and St. George ; '-> nd Oaptain Venet, Lieutenant Montmorency, Private Byrne, and Captain Neviil Smith have been awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous bravery at the Battle of Omdurman. M any minor decorations and promotions are also gazetted. Rear-admiral Noel, commander of the British fleet in Cretan waters, is made K.C.M.G., and Major-General Grenfell is appointed Governor of Malta.

The censure motion was negatived by 63 to 40. The large majority was due to the Labor members and the majority of the representatives in the sugar districts voting with the Government. At a caucus of the Labor Party, it was decided tbat, while supporting the Government in the present crisis, it) would oppose the taxes on tea, rice, coffee, and chicory when they came before the House.
