Intending visitors to thi3 portion of the Southern Alps may now proceed either by rail to Fairlie, and thence by coach leaving Fairlie on Tuesdays and Fridays; or by rail to Kurow and from there by coach to Pakaki on Tuesday, connecting with Fairlie coaches at Pukaki, leaving on Wednesdays only. Tourists can take the regular mail coach or arrange at Fairlie for special buggy at about the same rate, viz., 70s return. " Through " Booking Return Fares from Christchurch —First, Li 15s; second, 14 7b 6d. From Dunedin—First, L 5 sa; second, L4l2s6d. The Hermitage is nnder the care of Mr and Mrs Ross, with Mr J. Clark as guide. Riding horses can be hired at the Hermitage at a reasonable price. The rooms are comfortable and the table well provided. The tariff has been arranged at reasonable prices.
