AUCKLAND MARKETS. By Telegraph. (Special to the Oamaru Mail.) Auckland, May 5. • Produce business continues dull. There arc good stocks on hand and the markets all show a decided tendency to weaken, with the exception ot- fodr der, the price of which is being- kept up by an abnormal demand from Australia.
Table Potatoes. —The market is still congested, -and southern consignments have- been "quitted with difficulty at 100s ex wharf. *Of local a quantity are also offering on market at 80s ex - rail. Cats. —This grain is substantially weaker, luvercargill quoting A ' grade Gartens at 3s 9d, and B's at 3s 8d f.0.b., s.i. Local stocks are sufficient for all requirements, and business •is very dull-in the meantime.
Algerian Seed Oats.—The second shipment from America, per s.s. Waiternata, have turned out much more satisfactory and are- selling readily. Good bright clean southern farmers' dressed lines arc offering at Gs 3d f.0.b., s.i. There are good stocks on hand. Onions.—The market is steadier. There is a -fair inquiry for good stocks at 80s, f.o.b. Flour.—The market _is -.exceedingly dull. There are ample stocks. Quotation : £l6. _ ' Milling Wheat. —The market is dull and buyers are not operating to any extent. Quotation: 6s Sid f.o.b.
Fowl Wheat. —Several lines of this are offering, but inquiry is dull. Consumers can- do better in other grain. There are ample stocks, and the quotation is 6s Sd f.o.b.
Pollard. Market firm; supplies short; good demand; nominal quotation 180s f.0.b., s.i. Bran. —Market firm; good demand ; fair stocks; 150s f.o.b. Uyecorn.—Market easier; fair stocks; inquiry dull at 6s 6d f.0.b., s.i.
Chaff.—The market is inclined to weaken. Local supplies are sufficient for requirements. There is a fair demand for Juno. July, and August delivery. Recent'sales at 140s to 142s 6d for spread deliveries. There is a good inquirr for oaten and wheaten straw chaff.'
Capo Barley.—Market easier; good stocks; demand dull at 5s 3d, f.0.b., s.i. Maize. —The market is firm. The Javanese quality is nan- exhausted, and coastal shipments are meeting with a ready sale- at 5s 7d ex wharf. DLWEDIN MARKETS. (Pkb Press Association.) Dunedin, May 5. ' At Burnsidc to-day 20 fat cattle were yarded, consisting principally of medium weight steers and heifers. Prices for prime quality were a shade firmer .than the rates ruling last week and medium and inferior sorts worn about tire snmo as a- week ago. Best bullocks £l3 10s to £l-1- i.os extra orime to £l9, medium £lO 10s to £ll 10s; inferior £8 10s to £9 10s, best cows and heifers £ll to £l2 10s. extra to £l3, niedaim £8 10> to £9 10s, inferior £-3 to £7.
Fat Sheep.—3393 were penned, the majority consisting of medium quality. Priors for prime sheep were a shade easier than those ruling last week, while medium and inferior showed a dro:> of fnllv Is nor head. Best wether? 25s to 275". extra to 32s 3d. medium 21s to 225. inferior 18s to 19s. be=t ew?.s 22s to 2-is. extra to 27s 6d, ni.-dium 17s. to 18s, Jiferior lis to 12s 6:1. poor 7s. to 9s. Fat Lambs. —1688 were penned, and prices for prime wore about the same as last week, but medium, quality and stores - were practically unsaleable. Best- 17s to 18s. extra prime to 20s. medium to 15s, inferior. 10s to lis. stores 5s to 8s 6d. ' i Pigs.—l4o were yarded, and on account of 'the lame entry prices weie easier. ADDINGTON MARKET: Per Press Association. Christchurch. May 5. At Addington to-day there were moderate entries of stock and a fair attendance. Fat cattle sold at last week's rate?, and there was a little improvement in store sheen. Fat lambs firmed by fully 2s per head, and fat sheep by 2s and 3s. The yarding of store sheep was strikingly ' e mall. and quotations are: —Medium four and six-tooth wethers 12s 7d to 12s lid, medium- two-tcoth wethers 8s 9d to lis 3d, inferior two-tcoth 'wethers 7s to 8s Gd, aged; ewes 5s 6d to 6s 7d. aged merino ewes 3s 4d to 4s 4d. good souiul-nir.utfc: ewes 10s 9d to 13= Id, inferior two, four, and sixtooth ewes 7s 6d to 10-- 7d. fairly forward lambs 8s 9d to 10s, medium lambs 7s to S's Bd. inferior lambs 3s 6d to 6s 2d. good ewe lambs lis 7d.
The entry of fat lambs was somewhat larger than last week's, totalling 2618. Tlr.' quality was not only better, but more even! There was an improved demand, additional competition being provided by the ox>erations of -a buyer from Southland and., another from Tcmuka, as well as several local graz-lers. The range, of prices was: — Prime lambs 17s to '2os. others 10s 8d to 16s Gd". • Eight races were filled with fat sheep of average quality. From the start the market was firmer than last week by 2s to 3s per head., but towards the close or tho sale prices were a shade easier, but n good clearance of offerings was made. Range of prices:— Extra iirime wethers to '25-. prime wether* IDs 6d to 23s 9d, other wethers 15; lOtu to 10s merino wethers 10s K)d, extra, prime ewes to 24s_ Od. prime owcFi 17s to" 225, medium ewes 12s Gd to 16s 6d. inferior ewes 7-s -3d' to .12=. The vardmg of fat cattle totalled 223 head, coition red with 213 last week. There was no Quotable change in values. Prices: Extra steers to £l7 5s ordinary steers £5. 10s to £ll. ostra- ' lifters to £l2 10s. ordinary heifers £5 10s to £B, extra cows to£l3 5-. ordinary cows'. £1 to £7 10s: ■price;-of beef per 10C1b.,26s to 40?. Store cattle were entered in small numbers and were of indifferent class. There was little demand.
