NAVY LEAGUE.

~.--• ? :WAIMATE BRANCH. The-annual meeting of the above'was held pn -Tuesday afternoon. Mr N. Francis presided over a fair attendance of members. The_ .annual report stated that the year's; work opened with the- usual social and dance on 2rth May last. Thanks were due to all who assisted in making this function.a. success. Owing to the; outbreak of war the usual entertainments -had been suspended. In August a, special meeting : was; held, at which a. resolution expressing the loyaltry of members had : been carried to his Majesty the King;Special efforts made by the League, assisted., by the Automobile Association, the .Orchestral Society, and the St. Augustine Choir, resulted in £6O being sent Home to the Navy League Fund for wounded sailors and their dependents, •; The lady members had sent Home threef parcels of caps, scarves, belts,-.: arid gloves to be distributed amongst sailors on. active service. The report concluded with an expression of thanks to the A. and P. Association for the of ite room, to Mr J. Gold-st-orie for auditing, and to others gener- .:.

The report was adopted. •Tiefollowing officers were elected: — Mr N. Francis; Viee-Presi-.dents. .Mrs N. M. Orbell and Messrs W: M, and E. C. Studholme; Secretary; Mr E. H. Jamieson. A vote of thanks was passed to the retiring Secretary (Mrs N. M. Orbell). A letter.was received from the Navy League Headquarters, London, thanking ; the. Branch for its donations of iJioney and comforts for the sailors. After a discussion as to the propriety of holding the annual social- itwas decided to leave it in the hands of the Committee, it being understood that'should bad news be received in re-gaxd"-to the local contingent the social should be dropped.
