NUKUROA BAND OF HOPE. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Tiie annual meeting of the above was iiold in the Nukuroa Hall on Tuesday evening. The business consisted in the election of officers for the ensuing year. -Mr Watson occupied the chair. A short programme was gone through, consisting of songs, recitations, and ail address by Mr Geo. Dash, who congratulated the Band of Hope 011 having at the head of affairs 110 Jess a personage than King George. He deplored the drinking habits of the workmen in England, saying if more heed had been paid !to temperance reform this state of tilings would not exist. But nothing short of a national crisis had been able to open the eyes of the British statesmen. However, the King had set a noble example, and it was to be hoped that all would follow liis Jead and make this a record year in securing temperance pledges. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mr Briggs; Vice-President—Mrs Saunders, Messrs Murray and Meyer; Secretary and Treasurer, Mis Shriinpton; Assistant Secretary, Mr W. Saunders; Organist, Mr Jolin Kearton. A large working committee was also formed. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr lvearton for his able services during the past year. Votes of thanks were passed to the old committee by Mr Dash and Mr Watson. Tin; singing of "Tipperary" concluded the performance.
