THEFT ON A BIG SCALE.

Peh Press Association. Auckland, May 7. At the Police Court to-day Edward George Nurse, aged 32, was charged with stealing a diamond and other rings valued at £SOO, the property of the National Bank of New Zealand. On an application being made I'cr a remand and for hail, the Crown Prosecutor said a great deal more was at stake, than the charge might indicate. The matter involved several thousand pounds. If the defendant was prepared to help the Crown in it.-, investigations he would not object, otherwise he asked that the bail be prohibitive. The Magistrate, after looking over figures submitted, said that what tin l Crown Prosecutor stated was correct, and iixed the ■ hail at two sureties of £SOO each., accused to .report himself twice everv day.
