The following varices were realised for the fleece portions of the clips named:— Awaroa, top 16d, average 14 jd; Pakira, top lad. average 14Jd. Bradford—Merinos are strong: medium and low crossbred neglected. Sixty-fours, 32d; super sixties, 33A (sic)'; common sixties. 301-d; fifty-sixes. '_'9id: fifties'. '2S\d; forty-fives. 25 Ad ; forties, 23-'.d.' Sheepskins—B6oo bales of Australasian >skiu s were offered and 6200 were .sold. There was a fair attendance, but competition was irregular. Merino combings a farthing lower, crossbred combings and all clothings a halfpenny. Wheat is firm, with few offers. Flour is firm", and tending to become dearer. Oats are quiet: New Zealand 3.5: Bahia-Blanca, Mav-Jtine shipment 30s 3d. Peas —Quiet. New Zealand maples. » CSs to 0-js. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company (Limited) have received the following cable from their Ixmdon house under yesterday's date: "Sheepskins.—Combing merino is a farthing lower, i-rossiin d halfpenny. and shorn a penny lower." Nothing can be done iu eats in'view of the lower prices ruling in Southland. DLWEDIX MARKETS (Otago Daily Times.) There is very tittle doing iu the local wheat market. Millers are not responding to the ofters of farmers, and as the latterare not prepared to accept lower values, business is very slack. Prices (nominally) mp.y be quoted as follows: — Tuscan, 6s 6d: red wheat, (5s 7d: velret, 6s Sd to 6s 9d (on trucks, country sidings). Bakers are not too keen to buy any quantity of flour, as they anticipate a. I drop in the current quotations.
The tariff of the New Zealand Flour and Produce Agencv Company is as follows:—Sacks. £l7 10s-: 1001b ba-<£s. £18; 601b bags. £lB ss: 251b bags, £lB 10s. Pollard, £9. Bran.. £7 los. Oatmeal is quoted at £2O a ton for •-•:.'.-■; PearJ barley. £2l 10s. • Oatmeal-has been'reduced iu price by £1 a- ton. .. . .
. Prices for oats show- a decline, during the week, consequent on an absence ot shipping business. Export business being entirely prohibited by the Government (with the exception of the fulfilment of forward contracts with Australia), shippers have only the North ■lsland to look to. .Merchants there, however, are well supplied, and are displaying little interest in the market. Farmers have been offering oats freely, but local merchants are unable to absorb these lines at anything like late rates, and their buying limits have boon reduced by 2d to 3d per bushel. Country lines are freely offering at 3s 3d to 3s 4d, on trucks, in the Gore district, but merchants, having filled their vequiremeuts at these, prices, are nowonlv offering 3s 2d to 35".3d. If the North Island merchants continue to keep off »'he market, it would" appear that prices must further recede. During the week sales of A Carton have been made at 3s S.Vd (f.0.b., sacks weighed in),, and B's at as low as 3s 7d: Consignments of chaff are about equal to the .demand, and there is no difficulty iu quitting all prime samples.
