WAITAKI-WAIMATE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.

The final ordinary monthly meeting prior, to the annual meeting of the Wnitaki branch of the Waitaki-Waimate Acclimatisation Society was held .last night, when there were present —Messrs C H. Swinard (President). W. Sumptor. J. Mitchell, H. Ingram. J. T. Bennett, W. Duncan. G. Drummond. W. Dewar. J. M'Phail, A. Crow, A. Dobsou and C. Piper (secretary;. Mr M.'Pluiil moved, and Mr Mitchell seconded, that Mr W. Sumpter have a free hand, as the delegate of the Waitaki Branch of the Society, at the conference, to be held in Wellington.— Carried. . .

The Department of Internal Affairs wrote stating that it had been deckled not to allow either paradise duck or native pig-eon to be shot in any district this season. —Received. 'J he Commissioner of Crown Lands, Dunedin. \vrot<> with reference to land allotted for acclimatisation purposes in tlte vicinity 'of section 31, block 4, Oamaru survey district, stating that he could not trace the information required, and recommending that the Under-Secretary of Internal Affairs be communicated with.—Received. It was resolved that all rangers' reports, etc.. be.handed in at next meeting. Mr MThail moved, ami .Mr Crow seconded, that -30,000 brown trout ova. be obtained from the Government, and that no fish be taken from the Kakanui Kiver. —Carried. The Executive reported re the fence across the Society's reserve, as follows: "The Executive of the Society met the acting-chairman of Reserves Committee re the fence lately erected by Mr Chalmers. It was found that the fence was not on the proper boundary of the reserve, as leased to Mr Chalmers, but it was agreed that the fence be allowed to remain, on condition that the Society have access to the land for acclimatisation purposes, and that no use bo made of that part for grazing."— Approved. The statement of receipts and expenditure, which showed a credit, balance of £53 13s on the year's transactions, was laid on the table. —It was resolved that the statement be printed and circulated amongst members. The Grounds Committee, per the chairman, reported that everything "was in a. satisfactory condition. Messrs Crow and Mitchell were appointed a- Grounds Committee for May. ' •A sub-committee, consisting of the president, secretary, and Mr Mitchell, was set up to prepare' the animal report. ' A hearty vote.-of thanks was recorded on the minutes to Mr A. Crow. Maheno, for his gift to the Society' of a unique fallow deer head. Accounts amounting to £4 17s Gd were passed for payment. It was resolved to hold a special meeting at 7 o'clock, being one hour previous to that of the annual meeting, on the 28th inst. -: Mr Sunvpter proposed and Mr Crow seconded a, heartv vote of thanks to the president' for, his efforts m furtherin"- the work of the Society, the motion bemg carried with acclamation. The chairman, in acknowledging the compliment, said he enjoyed the work, but thought some one else should have a turn, as he had been in the position for the past two years, but whatever he could do for the Society he would do with pleasure. A vote of thanks was also passed :to Mr W. Sumpter for his valuable work in connection with the working of the Society, and to Mr C. Piper for his efforts as secretary.
