PERSONAL NOTES.

Private W. J. Bunting, of the North Otago Regiment, who' has died of his wounds, was an old Waitaki High School boy. Hi-s father is Mr ..Thos. Bunting, of the firm of Bunting and Co., brush manufacturers in Ctbiristclmreh. Private Bunting was at one time engaged with his brother farming in the Ngapara district, but came from O.ueenstown to enlist with the I North Otago Regiment.

• Private JR. Quigley, of the Canterbury Battalion, reported as wounded, was" born at Herbert, where Iris mother still resides.

Lance-Corporal J. G. Menzies, of the Canterbury Battalion, reported among the wounded, was born at Maheno, a-nd removed to Waimatc, where his next of kin, Mr John Menzies, resides, Private E. E. Fairbrother, also of the, Canterbury Battalion, included in the list of wounded, « an old Oamani boy, and his next of kin is his father. Mr E. -Fairbrother. of Timaru.

Sergeant-Major Partridge., who is among tlio list of men who have died of wounds, was on loan, to New Zealand by the Imperial authorities. He belonged to the 3rd Worcester Regiment, but had been, attached to the loth (Auckland) Regiment. A Press Association message from Christchurch states that Private J. Erwin was the second son of the Rev. Dr Erwin, of Knox Church. Bealey Avenue. He was educated at the Boys' High School, and later spent some time in Australia. On returning to Christchurch he joined the firm of Kaye and Carter, which he left in order to join tlio Expeditionary Force. Ar Press Association message from Christchurch says Sergeant J. S. Hilson was a prominent oarsman and footballer. He was an exceptionally strong man, and represented the Canterbury i Rowing Club in many important ; events. He joined the First Expedij tionary Force on the outbreak of war, and was quickly promoted to the rank of Sergeant. Private H. Newton, who died of wounds at the Dardanelles, was (says a Press Association message) well known in "Wellington. His mother resides at Nelson, where he took a prominent part in college life, and for several veare was one of the best players in the first Rugby fifteen. He was a prominent athlete, and held the college record for long jump, which stood for a long time as a. school record for Australasia. He had been for the past five vears employed as a civil engineer in the Public "Works Department. Private Herman . Sidney Larkins,, wounded in the Dardanelles, was born in Port Chalmers. He is the fifth.son of the late, Captain .Larkins. He is a great shot, was for many years in the City Rifles, and played for the Alhambra football team. Bugler C. Chegwidden, who has been reported wounded in action at the Dardanelles.' is the second son of Mr Elias Chegwidden.'jun., of the Hawke's Bay Herald composing staff. Sergeant Frederick H. Russell (South Otago), Otagi Infa-ntry Battalion, mentioned in the cables as having been wounded at the Dardanelles, was one of the first to enlist at "Wyndham. in which'town and district (says the Farmer) he is well and favorably known.
