. NORTH OTAGO AGRICULTURAL i and Pastoral Association.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of -t!be North Otag-o Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on, Saturday afternoon. The President (Mr Jas. Mahoney) presided over a large attendance. An apology was received from Mr A. Gillies, of Hampden. The reoort as already published in the Mail" was taken as 'read. Mr Geo. Brownlee: moved! the adoption of the balance-sheet, which he asked them to take as read. The balance-sheet showed a car-eful year.

SL" W. Peary seconded the. motion, which was carried.

Mi- W. Gardiner moved that it be a recommendation to the Committee to ! place the matter of the New Zealand' ' tablet locking system before the Minis- | ter of Railways. It was stated that ' £l2O ihad been paid in October, but that .nothing had been done. The Secretary read the list of balloted: members for the rear 1915-IG:—J. R. Mitchell, J. Ma-honey, J. R. Gilchrist, W. Gardiner, jum., H. A. Dovey, John Macplierson J. S. Anderson, P. Martin, J. A. Duff, W: P. Reid. W. Macaulay, John Reid, Jas. Doig. Mr W. Gardiner, jun., withdraw from the Committee, but said he would still give the Association his most hearty efforts.

Mr' T. -Stephens was put in Mr Gardiner's place. Mr George Brownlce proposed Mr. H. A. Dovey as President, which was bv Mr P. Ma.rtin and' carried with acclamation. Mr Dovey thought they could not do better than, reinstate Mi- Mahoney. Mr Mahoney declined. The office, lie thought, should be a rolling one. Mr J. A. Macplierson was, on the votes of Messrs Geo. Livingstone ana Mr W. Gardiner, jun., elected' VicePresident. Mr G. Brownlee was elected Treasurer on the motion of Mr W. Gardiner, who said that, he had been so long Treasurer that none con Id approach his grip of the business-. Mr Mahoney, alluding to the term of his office, said it had been a great pleasure to preside at the meeting owing to the "support given him by members. They could not be better, treated in the matter of comfort than

they were by the County Council. Mr Gardiner said they had never had a President who worked' better or did more for the Association than Mr Mahoney had done. Mr George Livingstone also spoke eulogisticallv of the. retiring President. Mr Dovey thanked them for all the goodi things they said about him. He would always try to do his best for the Association.

Mr G. W. Fnier wrote, on behalf of the auditors, appreciating the Secretary's work. ' The books were neat and tidy, the work up to date, vouchers all in order, so that work became a pleasure. The Association was to be congratulated in possessing such a painstaking and energetic Secretary as MiMiller. A Committee was held- immedaately folloving the annual meeting, at which were present-—Messrs H. A. Dovey (President), John Macplierson, G. Brownlee. J. Mahoney, G. Bruce; C.

Cowan T. S. Little. T. Loughnan, P. Martin, J. G. Macd'onald, J. O'Brien, W. P. Reid and W. Macaulay.

The Maiiawatu and West Coast Agricultural and Pastoral Association wrote enclosing a scheme for subsidising Agricultural and Pastoral Associations from a totalisator tax. The war had brought into prominence the factthat horses were still needed for military purposes, and the present was a good time to proceed with an application to assi-t in ihorse-breeding andhelp the Agricultural and Pastoral Associations at the same time.—lt was decided to hold the matter over. Miss D. Wiusley, Hon. Secretary of the North Ota go 'Ladies' Hockey Club wrote, thanking .'the Association for the use of the grounds during last season, and begged pei-mission for a continuance of the privilege enjoyed l . Every care would be taken of the grounds.— Permission to use grounds was granted. J. A. Duiihar wrote from Timaru tendering his resignation, which was received with regret. The following Finance Committee was set up:—H. A. Dovfv (President), John Macoherson (Vice-President). G. Brownlee (Treasurer), J- R- Mitchell. J. Ma-honey, and the Secretary. A vote of thanks closed the meeting.
