FRUIT FOR THE BELGIANS.
EXHIBITION IN CHRISTCHURCH
The Department of Agriculture, Tn dustries, and Commerce has issued the following circular: —
Some little time ago a number of orchardists in New Zealand were, prepared' to make gifts of considerable quantities of frw't for the Expeditionairy Forces at the front. This offer, unfortunately, could not be taken advantage of on account of suitable cool storage, not l>e.ing obtainable- on th.e boats. They probably still wish to assist, and recognise that the Belgian Fund ha-? very strong claims on our .sympathies. Acting on a suggestion that the Government Orchard Division should orgaivw a large fruit display in Wellington! if sufficient gift :fruit is forthcoming, the Department have decided to hold 1 a sale of fruit next week in Christenurcli, the proceeds of which are to go in aid of the Belgian Fund. The salto will'be run on behalf of .the donors by the officers of the Orchard.. Gardens. aiwJ Apiaries Division. This is on excellent" opportunity for each district to advertise its fniit and at the. same time- help destitute Belgians. Those who feel, disposed to give fruit for thisi puroose are asked; to forward it. addressed to -Mr W. J. Courtier, Orchard Instructor, CliT.istchurch. to roach him not later than the 11th instant. Quantities from half a case and upwards of good fruit will be accented. Each case should be marked with the name of the grower of the variety. A list of donors with the number of cases given will be published.
