TOKARAHL MILITARY NOTES.

To the .Editor.

Sir, —-Seme six or seven months ago a meeting was called at Tokarahi for tho purpose of l forming a .Defence RifleClub, and intending members from Tok'.irabi, Maerewhcnua. and Living-: stone, to the number of 35. or thereabouts, decided to form a club.. A com-; mittri- was therefore i'orined with a president, vice-president, secretary, ami treasurer to carry on the initial work necessary to a new club. A range was chosen, inspected, and approved of by the Defence Department, providing theland could be procured from the- owners, which has been done. (This riinge, I may say- is supposed to be one of the most suitable for the purpose in North Ota go.) . 'At the time some difficulty was- experienced in getting rifles and, -ammunition owing to the war. It may stilPbe hard to procure rifles, etc., but still ;ill those months have gone by and the club and range are no further ahead to-day except for a few miniature Tf/1 •"* matches held in' the Hall, and .which have gone flat, for some considerable time now. Wake up, Tokarahi! Get the range going, and the boys one-:-moro enthusiastic. Britain wants more l men. and those men must be able to .shoot. Tttkarnhi district- has two or three of the best rifle shots in North Ota.go—why ivot try and get more!-' And why should we not have a club of our own as well as Ngapara and Papnkaio, who -are now having matches with Oama.ru and Glennvy while, wo are ting down 10-oking on? '1 here is to" much pessimism somewhere, and i. would like to see it removed. I am glad to -vice that the North Otago Patriotic Committee Ims taken up the recruiting: movement and wish them every success in their venture. —I am, etc. , -,' OPTIMISM.
