CORRESPONDENCE.
RECRUITING.
To the Editor. Sir,—l notice in your report 01. the meeting of the Patriotic Committee that the Mayor stated that something would have to he done to stimulate recruiting. I quite agrees with him, but it seems strange that lie can state that both the brass and l>ipe panels will turn out to assist at a recruiting meeting when neither band can find time to turn out to give- the men a send-on .after t-hev have enlisted. Such ment doe's not assist recruiting. Iheu in some cases employers are to blame. If everv employer would put up a notice that the places of men who enlisted Would be open for them on their return I am sure it would help, but 1 am afraid that pocket comes before, patriotism ; whv some even ask that their mvn ba excused from attending camps at a. time like this. As 'tor Mr Grave's suggestion. I am afraid, that the National Reserve would get more dead-heads than live members. It is not to be expected that parents-will consent to their sons going when some of those that are spouting "about everyone's duty keep theirs at home. Then why docs the Committee not state plainly that thc-y will look alter these that are left behind. If this was done it would release a number that are not going to forget their duty to their parentsmore credit to them.. There seem to be plenty of young men about town, but of some" of them" it can truly be said that their health, and bodies are all right but their hearts are in the wrong place.—l am, etc.. IMITISH CITIZEN.
