A German official communique announces:—Our airships bombed the fortified town of Southend.

The incendiary bombs consisted ot a core of taried rope saturated in chemicals and bound with wire. They were sufficiently heavy to penetrate a- root, and the fuse was apparently lighted before, the. bomb was dropped, 'the missiles 'were hard to extinguish. ■ _ The damage at.Southend and Prittlcwell is'estimated at £IO,OOO. A bomb dropped near a prison ship' in which 1200 German civilians were interned. Many had narrow escapes. . A bomb crashed into the bedroom of two sisters. It fell a few inches from the bed and ignited the bedroom.
Received Ala y 12, at 8.55 a.m. Paris, May 11
A Taube dropped several bombs at St. Denis and did much damage, many people being injured. An aeroplane drove it off.
