FORCING THE DARDANELLES.
ENTHUSIASTIC COLONIALS. RESOURCEFUL AND VIGOROUS. Received May 11. at 5.30 p.m. London. May 11. The Daily Chronicle's Dardanelles' correspondent says that on the 7th May the Allies' ships penetrated to Sari Sjglar Bay and bombarded Chailak. Ivilid Uahr, Nagara, and Kalessi at close range with considerable effect.
The Turks have been driven into the woods, behind Krithia, where they are being severely bombarded. Fighthg continues far inland from Kaba Tope, but. the Allies' hold on the right is secure. Maidos was burning throughout the Oth May.
Peirograd, May 10. A telegram from Sofia states that a group oi' Turkish officers who asked Rnvcr Pasha to sign an immediate peace were all executed. Received May 11, at 11 p.m. London, May 11. The Times says the essence of the Dardanelles enterprise is-.the- rcsourcand vigor of the Australasians. Asked to carry out a task which would test the mettle of the most seasoned soldiers they have already done well'.- and are now facing more deadly obstacles with the passion of enthusiasm. Lieut.-Colon'ol Sjmmensis, invalided from Egypt, -says that General Bird wood told, him that the Australasians were about to attempt what he believed had never before been attempted in the history of the world—a, landing in big force ; in the face of a 'stronglyposted enemy. He was sure that, they would do what was asked of them, his opinion being based on watching them closely for many Wtfeks. He praised their keenness, and said he had never seen' such a large body of .men so physically fit. He was very proud of them.
