This question, often heard but never officially answered, was put to the Minister of Defence to-day by your correspondent, who.succeeded in extracting some, information." "I am rather inclined to think, though I am not going to say for certaiu." replied the Hon. Jas. Allen, "that the bulk of our men. are there or on their way. I doubt whether many have been left in Egypt. 'General Godley has been at the scene of the fighting for.some time, and I have gcod reason to believe the mounted men are there, too, but perhaps without their horses." . •■ -Casualty lists have disclosed the fact that the Third Reinforcements had their share of the fighting. The Minister was asked if the fourth dra::t would go straight into the firing line. His answer was in the negative. . The Fourth Reinforcements, he said, will go to.. Egypt, and' put. in a couple of months'" training before, going to the front.
