The Colonial Wool Merchants' Associtaion will iix the date of the August sales as early as possible. They intend to continue the system of frequent sales during the war.
CHRISTCHURCH MARKETS.

There has been rather a wide inquiry for wheat during the past few days, but there is very little offering. Some buyers arc only offering 6s 4d: at country stations, thoughi more would probably be given; for good' straight lines. It is -reported that -a fairly large line of Hunters' and- Tuscan has been purchased in the- Ashburton district at fi> 7d. April threshing returns arcnow being looked for, as they wilF. practical}' decide what quantity of wheat is available.
Orders 'for oats placed in Southland for 8000 sacks have had a firming tendency on the market. So far as North Canterbury is concerned, there are apparently few surplus oats left ongrowers' hands, and for some time past there has been little offering. The ruling'price is about 3s 6d to 3s 7d at country stations.
Oatslieaf chaff is very firm at £6 to £iQ 2s 6d at country stations, and the demand' lias- included Government requirements. Potatoes are dull of sale at £3 10s at country stations. Few orders are coming in from the- North Island, and •shipments to Auckland are delayed through scarcity of shipping space.
ASHBURTON MARKETS.
The stock sale held at the Tinwald Yards yesterday was a poor one, both as regarded entry and attendance. The The yarding totalled 865 sheep, as against 618 the previous week at the Ashburton Yards, and included 200 fat ewes. 61 fat wethers, 140 fat lambs, and 464 store sheep and lambs. With one exepteion a line of fat ewes, which made 18s 3d, the quality was below he standard, and several lines yarded iu the fat pens were taken by graziers. No wethers were sold at auction. Prices obtained' were as follows: —Best butchers' ewes 18s 3d, medium weights 14s Sd to los, 2d. light weights 8s 3d to 10s lid, lambs lis 6d to 14s. The principal "sales-were: Ewes —26 at 8s 3d, 40 at 18s 3d, 34 at los 2d, 18 at 14s Sd, 51 at los, 15 at- 15s. 8 at 10s lid; lambs, 126 at 14s, 3 at lis 6d. Tiie yarding of store sheep consisted of four small lines, the ewes bringing 6s below that obtained at the ram and ewe fair.at the beginning of April last, while the lambs were down us a head. Sales were: 23 crossbred ewes 4s 9d, 72 sound-mouth halfbred ewes Ss, 100 sound and failing-mouth ewes 5s sd, 232 mixed sex three-quarterbred lambs lis 4d.
Fat. cattle sold well, but there was no demand for stores. Fat cows made £6 to £8 2s 6d, fat heifers £6 to £8 los, fat steers £8 16s, small stores 25s (3d.
WOOL SALES
The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cable from their London house:. —"London wool sales-: Faulty scoured merino is 5 per cent, lower, and greasy crossbred is 5 per cent, higher,"
