The Public Service Commissioners- -null shortlv call for applications lor tlio position of Assistant Inspector-General of Education in place of Dr Anderson, ivho lias become Chief of the # Education Department, and the appointment or' Government representatives to the Council of Education will be announced when the results of the elections by teachers and beards are known. Disthe future with your correspondent "the Minister of Education (Hon. Jas.'Alien) elated that very important questions 'awaited the consideration ot the new Beard of Education. Our reformatory .school;-, for instance, are overcrowded, and the whole system ot thai branch of education has to be lcoiio into so as to decide whether the schools shall be enlarged, or whether there is to be another -ystem of classification. Agricultural education is aUc> under consideration. "We are concerned about the training of those teaching the children;'-' added the Minister, who pointed out- that the powers of urban school committees have been extended under the new Act. if they decide to combine their districts.
