WATER SUPPLY
NEW HIGH PRESSURE MAIN The purchase from Messrs Hume Steel. Ltd., of concrete-lined steel pipes at an estimated cost of £7678 was approved by the City Council at its meeting last night. Explaining the need for the purchase, the report of the Water Committee stated that, with the connection of the Deep Creek supply to the Waitati-Leith supply, the pressure in this area had been considerably increased. Portion of the 12-inch cast iron Waitati-Leith main was already under very high pressure, and it was not possible to use it in connection with the Deep Creek supply. The demand .on the high level system was growing, and, in order to improve the position, the question of relaying portion of the 12-inch cast iron main from Helensburgh Saddle to Maori Hill in higher pressure steel pipes had been considered. This work would overcome the pressure difficulty on the Waitati-Leith supply, and the existing main could be used as a distribution main to improve the Roslyn and Maori Hill district system.
