AMERICANS IN MIDDLE EAST DECORATIONS CONFERRED RUGBY, Sept. 13. General Sir Harold Alexander and Air Vice-marshal A. W. Tedder attended a ceremonial parade at United States army headquarters to-day, states an agencv war correspondent, in commemoration of one year’s activities in the Middle East. Decorations were conferred on members of the United States forces. General Alexander personally decorated 12 United States officers' and n.c.o.’s, while 1Y decorations of the Soldiers’ Medal were made by Major-general L. Brerelon. Among the recipients were an Australian, who is a member of the R.A.F., ana another R.A.F. man. Behind the decorations lies a story of great courage. One morning a United States four-enginsd bomber crashed into a building on the edge of an aerodrome and caught fire. The petrol tanks exploded, and machinegun bullets began to go off in the flames. The eight members of the plane’s crew and several persons in the building were left struggling in a sea of flames.
