ATTEMPTS TO ESCAPE

AUSTRIAN TROOPS IN NORWAY (Rec. 11 p.m.) NEW YORK. Sept, 14. Austrian alpine troops stationed in Northern Norway recently made mass attempts to escape to Sweden, says the Stockholm correspondent of the New York Times, who quotes an eye-wit-ness’s report that some succeeded in reaching Sweden, but several hundred who failed were summarily shot by German firing squads. The Germans have since trebled the border guards.
