Manufacture Prohibited A message from London slates that the Minister of Food. Lord Woolton, refused to appeal against the prohibition on the manufacture of ice-cream. The pre-war consumption of ice-cream was 30,000.000 gallons a year, and the ban is expected to save 30.000 tons of transport and 1000 tons of paper a year. Maximum Prices for Meals Maximum meal prices and restrictions on the number of courses which may be served in public eating places will operate from September 21 under a National Security Order which has been issued in Australia. The maximum prices for meals will be: Luncheon 4s, dinner ss, other meals 3s. •«. Captured R.A.F. Men The Parliamentary Under-secretary of State for Air. Captain Balfour, stated in the House of Commons that no information had yet been obtained from the Japanese Government, either through the protecting Power or from the International Red Cross, concerning R.A.F. personnel in Java and Sumatra when those islands were captured. The British War Cilice announces the following appointments of general officers commanding in chief: —Eastern Command. Lieutenant-general M. J. A. H. Gammell; South-Eastern Command, Lieutenant-general J. G. des R. Swayne; Western Command, Lieutenant-general E. C. A. Shcreiber.
Archbishop Visits Fleet The Archbishop of Canterbury recently paid a formal visit to the Home Fleet at the invitation of the Com-mander-in-Chief. Admiral Sir John Tovey. This is believed to be the lirst occasion on which the Primate of England has visited the fleet in war-time. The Archbishop preached the Sunday morning sermon on the flagship.
