RICCARTON NOTES

(Special) CHRISTCHURCH. Sept. 14. The weather cleared over the week-end and the tracks are drying, with prospects of good conditions ahead. Candidates for Ashburton and Geraldine will have good galloping ground this week. Tea Drop ricked a joint at the end of last week. He has been on the easy list for a few days, but G. Rldgway is hopeful that he will be able to race at Ashburton on Saturday. He should be ready soon to show form on a firm track. The three-year-old Lord Advocate was lame after his work on Thursday, but he soon recovered from the trouble, which was due to striking himself. This big colt is in good order, and he looks ready to race well. P. Spratt will have to cancel his trip north this week, for the second day of the Wanganui meeting, as he is well booked up for Ashburton on Saturday. R. Wilson has arranged for Willow Wood to leave on Saturday for Auckland, where he will join I. Tucker’s team. Aquitain, who was sent here by M. B. Edwards for the Novice Stakes at Ashburton, will return to Greymouth early next week, as she is not engaged at Geraldine. Sally Lunn has started to do some pace work, in preparation for more serious tasks, to fit her for the New Zealand Cup. Before then she may have a trip to Trentham. She is in good health. Monetary’s two-year-old brother was doing good work, but C. Emerson has sent him home to be spelled for a few weeks. There is nothing wrong with him, but his owner has decided not to hurry the youngster, who shows promise of being useful.
