Rifleman John Robert Mackay', who
was previously 7 wounded a second time oniSeptember 15th, is now> officially | reported as killed in action on Sept. 15th, was a son; of Mrs Mary S. and the late Mr W. G. Mackay, of Clifton. . He was born at Palmerston South, and educated, in Invercargill at the Clifton * School, the South and the Boys’ High School. Prior to leaving with the 3rd Battalion of the N.Z. Rifle Brigade. he was a railway clerk at Bluff. He was : a member of the Southern Football Club, and i was a keen supporter and Fasti.Grand of Aroha Lodge, No. 11. Advice has been received that Private, A. W. Vyner has succumbed to his wounds. Priv. , Vyner was a son of Mr and Mrs P. A. Vyner, Invercargill, where* he was born, and* educated at the South scho,ol. At the time of his enlistment with the 3rd Reinforcements, Priv.» Vy-ner was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Southland Mounted Rifles, and was« 29 years;of age. The death occurred at Featherston Military' Hospital on Tuesday of Mr Arthur R. Deschler, son of Mrs N. J. M. Rein, of Gala street, from the effects of pneumonia and pleurisy 7 . Before leaving for camp,, Mr Deschler was farming at West Plains, and prior to t,hat at Morton Mains. He was - for a number of years a director of the Southland Metropolitan A. and P. Association, land a prominent member of the Farmers’ Union. N Mr Deschler was of a most genial disposition, and many!friends in Southland will learn, of his decease wfth regret.
