MATAURA ANGLERS
WEEK-END COMPETTnONS. (From our Correspondent.) Under the auspices of the Mataura Angling Club open and novice competitions were held during the week-end. There were five competitors in the open and two in the novice. Some good bags were secured, but the best one was got on the Mataura river near Charlton by Mr W. Allison who netted 44 fish weighing nearly 491bs. The other competitors fished the Mimihau at Venlaw. The result of the weigh-in is as follows: Open Competition—W. Allison 44 fish, 481bs 14oz, 1; T. Gaudion, 7 fish, 91bs loz, 2; -R. Sharp, 13 fish, 51bs 12oz, 3; D. Cameron 9 fish, 41bs 9oz, 4; H. Anderson 3 fish, lib 7oz, 5. Total—76 fish, 691bs lloz. Novice Competition.—J. McMath 8 fish, 71bs 6oz, 1; D. McMath 5 fish, 51bs soz, 2. Total —13 fish, 121bs lloz. The heaviest fish in the open competition was a two-pounder secured by Mr AUison, and in the novice competition Mr D. McMath got the heaviest fish, lib 6oz. The total amount of fish caught in the two competitions was 89 fish, 831bs 6oz. The weigh-in took place in Sleeman’s garage, and the fish were distributed amongst the non-fishing members of the club.
