SHAKESPEARE PLAYS.
ALLAN WILKIE COMPANY. The Allan Wilkie Shakespearean Company of forty performers, headed by .Mr Allan Wilkie and Miss Frediswyde Hunter-Watts, is to appear at Masterton for three nights, commencing on* Saturday, the 20th. The plays to be staged are “The Merchant of Venice,” “Twelfth Night,” and “The -Merry Wives of Windsor.” iMr Wilkie’s respective roles will be Shylock, Malvolio and Sir John Falstaff. Miss HunterWatts will figure in the leading feminine parts. It is nearly a year since the company was organised by Mr Wilkie, and it has toured with remarkable success in Australia. Crowded audiences have welcomed the combination throughout its present visit to New Zealand. By a new method adopted by Mr Wilkie, Shakespeare’s plays are presented with only one interval, of but eight minutes. By this innovation there is no distraction from the text or the acting, but each play is performed in its entirety. Local patrons are promised a dramatic treat.
