NOTES FROM MANAWATU
It will be interesting to your readers w r ho travel by coach to know that we are likely to have Cobb in a short time hence, stopping at the township of Foxton, instead of stopping at the mouth of the river as at present. We have petitioned the Superintendent, and communicated with the proprietors of the coach, who raises no objection. Travellers will thus have an opportunity of doing business here and on again next morning either way, which will be a great boon. We have two public-houses here, and hope to give travellers decent accommodation. If it is possible to get such a thing as in Canterbury it might be useful The up country publicans there have to keep a book supplied them for travellers to make any notes in as to the accommodation they receive, and I am of opinion that it is very requisite in this province ; this same book has to be produced upon licensing day. Strange to say we have only just discovered a good road from here out on to the beach towards Wellington, and we find that there is a saving of distance of about three miles, and the road towards Wanganui is but about one mile longer so that there will be an advantage that way. 1 hope you will instruct the public to travel as much as they can afford by this new route. We must see about reducing the fares.
