That the uniform regularity in the despatch of trains, and the freedom from serious accidents, have been largely due to tho wise, skilful, and cautious Superintendent, Mr Thomas Forth Eotheram, General Manager of the Patea-Mana-watu Eailway. That Mr Kotheram, by his prudence, punctuality, and unerring courtesy, has assisted to place tho railway traffic in a state of prosperous activity, to add to the convenience of travellers and tourists, and to inspire the public mind with confidence and security against alarms and dangers incidental to railway travelling. That on occasions of sudden and violent floods which have placed part of the railway line in temporary disrepair, Mr Rotheram has, by his instant and ; unremitting exertions, restored the working of the line without the loss of time, and lias made adequate provision in the interval for the travelling wants of tho public. ■ That your memorialists are so sensible of the claims of an important public officer, on whose discretion and ability they can entirely rely, that they hear with regret that the Government contemplate the removal of Mr Rotheram from a position which he holds with so much credit to himself and the welfare ■ of the public interests. ; Your memorialists therefore pray ■ that the Government will re-consider ■ the intention of removing Mr liotheram, and thus depriving the district of ser--1 vices appreciated so highly, aud which are so conducive to the continued prosperity of the railway line under Mr ltotheram's charge. And your memorialists will ever pray, &c, |
