PRESENTATION TO MR J. S. PALMER
A very pleasant oeremssry took place at Chavanraes' Victoria Hotel yesterday afternoon, where the Wanganui hotelkeepers assembled in full force to toast the health of Mr. and Mrs. J. S. 'palmer, on the eve of their relinquishing business in Wanganui. Mr. C. J. McCarthy, who occupied! -the chair, in a very neat and appropriate speech, -referred to the benefits the trade had "derived as the result of Mr. Palmer's zeal and ability during his stay amongst them, and to mark the respect and esteem in "which he is held by them. He was presenetd with a very handsome , silver tea and coffee service, inscribed: "Presented' t» J- s- Palmer, Esq., by the Wanganui hotelkeepers. 20/9/07." Mr. Palmer, who^^as completely taken by surprise, suitably acknowledged the gift. Mr. Smyth, who succeeds Mr. Palmer, was introduced to the meeting, and his health was toasted, and in a few wejl-chosen words expressed tihe pleasure it gave him to beciome a member of the trade itf Wanganui.
